A Bulgarian-Italian comedy tells a love story from the communist era

The new Bulgarian film "Aurora" tells a passionate love story from the 1950s, reported BTA. It is directed by Jackie Stoev, who created some of the most entertaining Bulgarian films, and Nikola Boshnakov. The plot is about an Italian journalist sent to Bulgaria for an exchange of experience, who unexpectedly falls in love with a Bulgarian woman in Sofia. The role is given to Brenno Placido, Italian actor and son of Michele Placido. He is partnered by Konstantina Georgieva.

This is a film about the absurdities of communism and the romance between two young people seeking escape from Bulgaria to Italy. They attempt to flee by using a papier-mâché model of the ship Aurora. The model, designed to pass solemnly at demonstrations, is used by the young people to ‘break' through the border and enter the free world, the film crew says. The producers are Ivan Tonev and Giuseppe Lepore.
