Great Bulgarian director Nikolay Volev, author of some of the most beloved Bulgarian films such as "Dvoynikat", "Gospodin za edin den", “Da obichash na inat”, "Margarit i Margarita” and many others, passed away in a domestic accident. He fell from an attic window in his apartment on "Krakra" street in Sofia.

A police team was dispatched to the site. According to initial information, the case seems to be a tragic accident.

In a post on social networks, the Ministry of Culture recalled the words of the director, who left us at the age of 78: "I don't know what the future will be, but everything I have done has been worth it, because it is flesh of my flesh and blood of my blood, it is part of my spirit. If this thing excites people and makes them think, I'm happy, too."

"We mourn the loss of great director Nikolay Volev. He left a bright mark in Bulgarian cinema with his emblematic films", the Council of Ministers wrote on their Facebook page.

Nikolay Volev studied architecture for five semesters. In 1968, he fled Bulgaria and after a stay in a refugee camp in Turkey went to England. He graduated in film directing in London. After returning to Bulgaria in the 1970s, he worked as a screenwriter and director of documentaries and feature films.
