Radio Bulgaria: The mission goes on

88 years after the firstbroadcasts by the Bulgarian radio targeted at audiences abroad, and 87 years after the foreign language broadcasts became part of the BNR’s programming, Radio Bulgaria’s mission of building bridges between Bulgarians around the world and spreading knowledge about Bulgaria goes on.

Modern technology and the digital revolution have made it possible to reach out to a wider audience.

Today, Radio Bulgaria offers journalistic content on different media platforms including – broadcasts for the Bulgarians living in other countries, broadcasts for foreigners living in Bulgaria and outside the country, as well as broadcasts for Bulgarian citizens speaking a native language other than Bulgarian. We are on social media in all of our 11 languages, and make use of all communication channels to keep in touch with our audiences – both traditional and new.

Despite the challenges of the day, with hard work and perseverance, in the past three years we have:

  • Resumed our daily podcasts in Bulgarian, targeted at the Bulgarian communities abroad (2022);
  • Launched a new product for a more in-depth look at Bulgarian communities abroad and building up regular contacts with them (2023);
  • Implemented a national programme marking the 150th anniversary since the death of the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski with a series of initiatives jointly with Bulgarian schools abroad, with patron Vasil Levski (2023);
  • Restored the podcasts in nine languages, entitled Bulgaria Today (2021);
  • Added one more language in which to communicate with the world – Romanian – thus covering the languages of all Balkan countries (2022);
  • Resumed, after a 40-year pause, the recording of musical works which are part of the singing tradition of the Bulgarian Turks;
  • Carried out on-site radio broadcasts from the region of Kurdzhali and Ludogorie (2020-2023);
  • Were awarded the Sirak Skitnik Grand Prix, 2021 for contribution to the development of the BNR (2022);
  • Were awarded the honorary diploma of the Union of Bulgarian Writers for our work in support of contemporary Bulgarian literature (2023);

And more…

But what matters to us most is the support we get from you, the listeners and users of Radio Bulgaria! Thank you!

The mission goes on…
