There must be no interference in the work of the Central Election Commission, President Rumen Radev said, in a comment on the decision by the Central Election Commission for the votes from the paper ballots and from the voting machines at the upcoming election for parliament to be registered in the same tally sheets. Talking to reporters, the President said that distrust must not be instilled in the electoral process, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.

“The machine vote should not be undermined any further, the voter turnout is low enough as it is,” the Bulgarian head of state said, and added he expected all institutions engaged in the organization of the election to make every effort to ensure more transparency of the electoral process.

Asked to comment on the postponement of Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone, President Radev pointed out that that is above all a matter of trust, transparency, openness and actual achievements. According to Rumen Radev, the inflation rate, which is an obstacle on this country’s road to the Eurozone, is to a great extent due to decisions made by previous administrations. In his words, the caretaker government cannot compensate for the lack of political will of the parties from the previous parliament which failed to approve the bills needed for Eurozone membership.
