Lawyer Nikolay Khadzhigenov, defender of the former mayor of Sofia's Mladost district Desislava Ivancheva, has submitted a request to the president for her pardoning, he himself announced on social networks.

Ivancheva was taken to the Sliven prison after the Supreme Court of Cassation confirmed her six-year sentence for receiving a bribe of 75,000 euros.

She was arrested in 2018 in a display operation led by the current chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev - then head of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office.

"This is part of the fight for justice. In a normal world, Ivancheva would be free, and Borissov (former prime minister and leader of GERB) in prison," commented the lawyer.

Desislava Ivancheva is a single mother of a one-year-old son.
