Every year, the second Saturday in August marks the beginning of the new hunting season in Bulgaria. Permitted for shooting are the quail, the European turtle dove, the common wood pidgeon, the Eurasian woodcock and the common snipe. Group and individual hunting of small game is allowed on Saturdays, Sundays and days declared public holidays.

The Caretaker Minister of Agriculture, Yavor Gechev, wished the hunters "good luck" and emphasized that Bulgaria has a purposeful policy for the protection of game populations, which is implemented together with hunting associations.
