“For two days there seems to be a shift towards replacing the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) – you can see last night’s EPPO announcement that it will work more closely with the Bulgarian government, which is not a good thing,” Vice President Iliana Iotova said after a commemoration ceremony in Sofia for the Day of Thrace. She referenced information that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating 9 Bulgarian companies that are suspected of committing fraud to obtain EU funds.

Iliana Iotova described as “a serious diagnosis” the fact that the work of the Interior Ministry and the work of the prosecutor’s office do not intersect anywhere, in reference to the arrests of ex-PM Boyko Borissov, his PR officer Sevdelina Arnaudova and former finance minister Vladislav Goranov.

With regard to the decision for the European Commission to negotiate with Gazprom on behalf of all EU member countries, Vice President Iotova commented that the idea for the joint purchase of gas is from 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea. Iliana Iotova stated further that she is pleased with the government’s first 100 days and does not see any cracks in the ruling coalition.
