The indicative deadline for the introduction of the euro is January 2024 and five months before this date and a whole year after that, prices in stores would be written in both euros and levs. This will allow us to compare prices in the two currencies. The news has been reported by the Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev. He has presented the plan for the introduction of the single European currency, which has also been published for public discussion.

Vassilev said that there is no risk of an artificial rise in prices after the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. According to him, the exchange rate of the lev to the euro will remain the same - BGN 1.95583 for 1 euro.

In order to enter into force, the plan must be approved by the National Assembly.
