53% of the residents of Bulgaria’s capital Sofia live near walking areas, an international survey of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy in New York (ITDP) among nearly 1,000 cities shows, Dnevkin informs.
The ITDP ranking is based on indicators such as density of urban blocks of flats, proximity of residents to open spaces without automobiles and access to services, including healthcare and education. In terms of proximity to green areas Sofia places in the middle of the ranking after Hong Kong (85%), Moscow (75%) , Paris (61%) and London (59%). 69% of the residents of Sofia live near health and educational institutions, similar to Tbilisi, Rome, Toulouse and Poznan.
