After the sitting of the EU General Affairs Council in Luxembourg Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva welcomed the unambiguous support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans. Minister Zaharieva regretted that due to the lack of time the decision of the EU on accession talks with the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania was postponed until later this year. Ekaterina Zaharieva voiced expectations that the council will return to this topic in October this year at the latest. Bulgaria continues to be a strong supporter of the Western Balkans on their EU accession path. Only the reliable prospect of EU membership and the application of the European values will guarantee stability, security and prosperity of the region, Minister Zaharieva pointed out.
