On May 21 four popular vocal groups are to perform pieces by Academician Nikolay Kaufman in THEATRO (Sofia). The renowned Bulgarian musicologist, folklorist and composer Nikolay Kaufman passed away at the end of March this year. The concert will be held in memory of Academician Kaufman. The audience will enjoy the performance of the Mystery of Bulgarian Voices Choir, Vanya Moneva Choir, Te Deum Adoramus chamber formation and Svetoglas Quartet. Stylist Mitko Dimov, a friend of Kaufman family and a big fan of Academician Kaufman’s works is among the organizers of the event. I was fortunate and honored to know this great person. We used to meet quite often in the recent years and talk about music, culture, etc. When he passed away, I realized that we should do something significant in his memory, Mitko Damov says.

The concert in memory of Academician Kaufman is only the first step. Mitko Dimov also established a foundation in memory of the great Bulgarian scientist with the support of the Kaufman family. We are planning to present to the audience Kaufman’s pieces that were not performed on stage before. His scientific works will be collected in a multivolume edition. We will organize creative workshops. Some of the most popular Bulgarian voices of the recent past will join the creative workshops in order to pass their rich experience on the young musicians. We have many other ideas, too, Mr Damov said.
