For 25 years energy consumption in Bulgaria has decreased by 33 percent

Eurostat has reported that between 1990 and 2015 energy consumption in Bulgaria has decreased by as much as 33 percent. This places Bulgaria among one of the EU countries with the largest decline in this respect.

The main source for the EU energy system in 2015 remained fossil energy sources (coal, natural gas, oil and petroleum products). EU's dependence on imported raw materials has increased from 53 percent in 1990 to 73 percent in 2015, while in Bulgaria dependence on imported raw materials has dropped from 73 percent in 1990 to 56 percent in 2015.
