Wholesale food prices down marginally

Wholesale food prices went down marginally during the week, data by the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets indicate. Compared to April 2015, their index is more than 9 percent higher, though at that time it hit a record high because of Easter season.
Imported vegetables continue cheaper than Bulgarian vegetables. The price of hothouse tomatoes went down this week hitting 2.40 Leva per kilogram; imported tomatoes cost under 2 Leva per kilogram, even though their price has actually gone up compared to last Sunday. The same tendency is evident with fruit, for example one kilogram of Bulgarian apples costs 1.20 Leva, as against imported apples at slightly over 1 Lev. Expectedly in springtime, the prices of leaf vegetables and radishes have gone down. Tendencies with meat products vary – the price of chicken is up slightly, of mincemeat – down.
