Dimitar Berbatov played his first 30 minutes for his new team Monaco. The Bulgarian striker came off the bench for his team in the 65th minute of the home game against the leaders in the French Championship PSG. The derby ended in a 1-1 draw and so PSG preserved its lead in the standings.
The Bulgarian tennis team kept its place in the first group of the Euro-African zone in Fed Cup. This followed a successful 2-0 victory against Luxembourg. Bulgarian chess GM Ivan Cheparinov won the Masters tournament at the traditional Gibraltar Chess Festival. According to the rules of the tournament, to determine the champion when players have equal score, playoffs are played immediately after completion of the parties. In the first of them Vityugov defeated Ivanchuk, but in the crucial game Cheparinov won against the Russian. 253 players from 49 countries took part in the tournament.
Kaloyan Mahlyanov Kotooshu is already a Japanese citizen. The 30-year-old sumo wrestler has received Japanese citizenship and now has the opportunity to become a coach. This is the reason that made Mahlianov abandon his Bulgarian citizenship, adopting the surname of his wife - Ando. Kotoosho made his breakthrough in Japanese sumo in November 2002. Since November 2005 by the end of 2013 he carried the title of "odzeki," the second highest in the sumo hierarchy. In May 2008 he won the Cup of the Emperor, becoming the first European to win the most prestigious trophy in the ancient Japanese sport. He has no license to coach yet but as a former "odzeki" he can work as a mentor for three years after the end of his career as a wrestler.
