Sofia authorities identify 3,000 cases of violation of the city's low-emission zone

The number of violations of the low-emission zone in the center of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, where cars of the first and second categories were banned from entering, has decreased tenfold, announced the deputy mayor for ecology Nadezhda Bobcheva. The zone was introduced for the months of December, January and February.

"During the tests last November, violations were 20,000 per day and have decreased to 2,000," said the deputy mayor.

The identified violators are about 600 people - they moved in the low-emission zone several times a day. So far, about 3,000 penalty cards have been issued, and the penalty is 50 leva.

Over the years, even more environmental-related bans will be introduced, said Nadezhda Bobcheva.
