Bulgaria begins preparations for the presidency of the Danube Strategy

On January 1, 2026, Bulgaria will take over the presidency of the Danube Strategy for the second time (after 2018).
This is happening at a difficult time for Europe, a time when the world is changing rapidly, when it is more important than ever to strengthen existing partnerships, said Bulgaria's Regional Minister Ivan Ivanov. He held the first meeting of the National Implementation Group for the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, in which four other ministers participated.

Ivanov pointed out that the Danube Strategy gives the countries of the Danube region opportunities for cooperation in connectivity, infrastructure, migration, demographic pressure, climate change and other problems that we cannot deal with on our own. He called for the preparation of proposals for events in these areas during the presidency.

Viara Mincheva, National Coordinator for Bulgaria, emphasized that the Danube Strategy is a cooperation tool that covers over 100 million people or one fifth of the EU's inhabitants. Bulgaria is engaged in priority areas such as security, culture and tourism.
