6.2-magnitude earthquake in Turkiye felt in Bulgaria

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 shook Istanbul at 12.49 local time and was felt to varying degrees across Bulgaria, BTA reported, citing the National Seismological Centre at the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.


Some schools in Burgas evacuated students and suspended classes, while others continued as normal, Radio Burgas reported. At the moment there is no evidence of damage in the country.


According to Bulgarian seismologists, the epicentre of the quake was 140km from the town of Malko Tarnovo, 200km from the city of Bourgas and 460km from the city of Sofia.
