Citizens of Sofia gathered for a protest once again today in memory of 12-year-old Siyana, who died in a car accident. Mass demonstrations continue across the country against the deadly behaviour of drivers on the Bulgarian roads.
“If our society had woken up during the years when there were national protests, we wouldn’t be crying for Siyana today. I sincerely hope that everyone will unite and this hell on Bulgaria’s roads will stop, because they are soaked with the blood of our children,” said Petya Ivanova from the “Angels of the Road” association. She added that the fact that killers on the road receive suspended sentences and continue to have driver’s licenses is not being discussed. Nikolay Popov – Siyana’s father, thanked the citizens for their empathy.
“If we reduce death on these 36 dangerous sections planned for repair to zero, we will save 150 Bulgarians’ lives and these are 20%,” Transport Minister Grozdan Karadjov told the Bulgarian National Radio.
