The President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, and the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, are hosting the Aqaba Process Summit, which focuses on the Balkans and brings together nearly 30 delegations. These delegations are led by Heads of State, government representatives, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations and heads of diplomatic missions in Bulgaria. The Forum is dedicated to fighting terrorism, illegal migration and radicalisation.
The Bulgarian President and King Abdullah II welcomed to the Forum the Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Minister of the Interior of Belgium, Bernard Quintin.
"The great challenge today, not only for the Balkans and Europe, but for the world as a whole, is to overcome the illusion that peace and security can be guaranteed for one country or region alone, or at the expense of others. Today, when security is becoming a daily challenge, it is particularly important for leaders to exchange views and work together to find ways to strengthen it," said President Rumen Radev before the start of the meeting.
The "Aqaba Process" initiative, launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, addresses current issues related to terrorism, illegal migration and radicalisation. Sofia is hosting the third summit of this format dedicated to the Balkan region.
