Solemn celebration of March 3 in Kyiv

The Bulgarian embassy in Kyiv is organizing a solemn commemoration on the occasion of the country’s national day, 3 March, in front of the monument to the Ukrainian soldiers and the Bulgarian volunteers who lost their lives for the freedom of Bulgaria in the 1877-1878 War of Liberation, the embassy has announced.

The Bulgarian embassy expresses gratitude to the Ukrainian people and its brave soldiers:

“It is time to put an end to Russia’s imperial narrative which only talks of Russians having fought and liberated Bulgarians from Ottoman domination. Let it be known that the Poltava, Orlovsky, Zhytomyr, Volinsky, Podolsky and a number of other regiments were made up of Ukrainians and that their bravery and self-sacrifice made the liberation of Bulgaria possible. Let us also remember that the mid and senior command ranks in the army of liberation included officers of Ukrainian, Polish and German origin. We, Bulgarians, honour the memory of the sons and daughters of any people who, by their sacrifice, made the liberation of our country possible,” reads the invitation to the commemorative event in Kyiv.

The commemoration will start at 12 noon with the national anthems of Bulgaria and Ukraine, followed by a memorial service and a flower and wreathe laying ceremony.
