A day before the boycott of supermarket chains due to high prices announced for February 13, the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association and the Association of Dairy Processors signaled that over the past year the mark-up on dairy products has reached 100% and more and "in many cases has nothing to do with real market conditions or operating costs". They insist that the state protects Bulgarian producers, processors and consumers.
Earlier today, the Commission on Protection of Competition announced that to a large extent the prices of food products in this country are influenced by prices on world stock markets. The CPC adds that their competence does not include "the possibility of price regulation" and "its powers do not include the identification and sanctioning of speculation by traders, respectively, controlling inflationary processes."
