With 125 votes in favour and 114 against, the National Assembly has approved the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov. The "yes" votes came from the three political forces directly involved in the government - GERB-SDS, BSP-United Left and There Is Such a People (ITN), as well as from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) led by Ahmed Dogan.

"After four years of freefall - I could say autopilot, although we have a pilot as president - after four years of piloted chaos, someone has to step up, in the name of Bulgaria and our common future, to form a government," GERB-SDS MP Luben Dilov said during the debates.

"The time has come for the brave, the experienced and the wise. More than ever, Bulgaria needs statesmen, not loud politicians. I believe that this government will act with reason and determination," said Dragomir Stoynev of the BSP-United Left.

"It is high time to put an end to political instability through a government that is transparently structured on the basis of principles, priorities and concrete goals," said the leader of the Parliamentary Group for Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DPS), Dzhevdet Chakarov.

"We will closely monitor any deviation from Bulgaria's European path, the rule of law and the supremacy of the rule of law. The government agreement submitted contains a paradox: it includes all the principles of liberal democracy, but in the government there are participants violating these very principles," said Nadezhda Yordanova, co-leader of the We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) parliamentary group.

"This government will begin its political life with not one but two betrayals - betrayals by two parties that are part of this parliamentary majority and government: BSP and 'There Is Such a People'," declared the leader of 'Vazrazhdane', Kostadin Kostadinov.
