The main task of the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Group remains the fight against floating mines in the Black Sea and ensuring free and safe navigation in its western part, said Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, Commander of the Naval Forces.

Bulgaria took over the command of the group from Turkey, which will last until July 2 this year. In April and June, two participations in international exercises are expected.
“The fight against the mine threat is complex, and the group’s activities are also excellent preparation for the post-war demining of the sea and the provision of safe waters,” said Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov. He pointed out that the Navy is betting on the development of its mine countermeasures forces, the special capabilities of the crews and investments in modern equipment.

The fleet’s activities to combat the mine threat are included in the budget of the Ministry of Defense for this year, which is expected to be approved.
