The Sofia Public Electrical Transport Company and the Tourism Municipal Enterprise (Visit Sofia) are organizing a free ride on a retro tram on the occasion of the 124th anniversary of the launch of the first tram in Sofia on January 14, 1901. During the tour, passengers will learn interesting facts about the history of the first tram in Sofia, the tram system and the places and landmarks along the route. Popular schlager music from that era will be played during the journey through the capital. The starting stop is Nadezhda Overpass, and the departure times are 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The route lasts for 30 minutes. The final stop is Journalist Square, with departure times at 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm, 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. The tram will stop at each station along the route. No prior registration is required.

The Sofia Municipality reminds that the first tram was officially opened at 10: 30 am on January 1 (old style January 14), 1901. The project was designed by the German engineer Klingenberg, and Sofia became one of the first European capitals to have an electrified public transport. The tram network had a total length of 23 km and consisted of six lines. There were no stops, and the tram would only stop if a passenger signaled to get on or off.

Today, the city has over 200 km of tram tracks (single track), and one of the most interesting and romantic stops is Vishneva tram stop near the Bulgarian National Radio.
