As Bulgaria marks Father's Day, the Shared Parenting Foundation is organising a protest calling for legal changes to ensure that children of separated parents are raised with the care of both parents. The event will be held under the slogan 'No to parental alienation, yes to shared parenting'. According to the Foundation, 100,000 children in Bulgaria suffer from the effects of parental alienation, while in other countries shared parenting is a proven model that provides a stable environment for children.

In Bulgarian families, fathers are playing an increasingly important role in the upbringing and education of children. The role of the father as a nurturing parent was officially recognised in Bulgarian legislation in 2009. Prior to that, the law designated the mother as the primary parent responsible for the upbringing and education of children, as lawyer and journalist Misho Grablev reminded BNR Plovdiv.
