On a proposal by the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office and the Sofia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has submitted a request to the 51st National Assembly for lifting the immunity of 6 members of parliament – Radostin Vasilev, Veselin Veshev, Angel Georgiev, Lena Borislavova, Gyunay Daloolu and Mario Rangelov.

The legal proceedings against Radostin Vasilev are from 2023 but have been halted because of his immunity as MP. The requests regarding MPs Veselin Veshev and Angel Georgiev are in connection with a case from 2021 for hooliganism and inflicting minor bodily harm on law enforcement officers. In the case of Lena Borislavova, the request is for documentary fraud. In the case of Gyunay Daloolu, the alleged evidence is of using threats to obtain 20 preferential votes during the election for 51st National Assembly. In the case of Mario Rangelov, the request is for crimes against the political rights of citizens.

Under the Constitution of Bulgaria, criminal proceedings against members of parliament with immunity can only take place with the permission of the National Assembly or if the member of parliament in question waives their immunity themselves.
