Judge Vladislava Tsarigradska of the Pleven District Court received the grand prize "Person of the Year" of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee. She grabbed the award for her active work in exposing unregulated relations and dependencies in the judiciary and for her continuous work in support of human rights and the rule of law in Bulgaria.
Because of her public positions, Tsarigradska received threats to her life and the lives of her loved ones and had security guards for months. In November, her security was removed without explanation. Because of this, she filed a case against Bulgaria at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
