Weightlifter Karlos Nasar wins 2024 Sports Icarus Award

20-year-old Bulgarian sports talent Karlos Nasar, the Olympic champion in weightlifting, is the winner of the 2024 Sports Icarus Award of the Bulgarian Sports Foundation. Nassar won the gold medal at the Paris Games in the 89 kg category, setting two world records in the process. This year he also became European champion at the Sofia European Championships with a total of 391 kg (176 + 215). Nassar also set unofficial records in the clean and jerk, snatch and total at the German Championships.
The other two Olympic champions for Bulgaria at Paris 2024, wrestlers Semen Novikov and Magomed Ramazanov, were honoured in the "impressive performance" category. Novikov won the gold medal in the 87kg category in Greco-Roman wrestling, while Ramazanov claimed the gold in the 86kg category in freestyle wrestling.
Bulgaria's national under-18 women's volleyball team was named Team of the Year. The team won the European Championship in Greece and Romania.
