In 2017, a public tender was carried out for the restoration of frescoes and architectural details of a 12th-century church designated as a historical and cultural monument. The project was funded by the EU's INTERREG IPA cross-border cooperation programme.
According to the investigation, the company that won the tender subcontracted the work to a subcontractor who, in turn, hired another subcontractor to carry out the restoration. The first company received EUR 198,000, of which it paid EUR 70,000 to the two subcontractors and kept the remaining EUR 128,000 for itself without carrying out any work and to the detriment of the financial interests of the European Union.
The name of the church involved in the project is not clear, nor is the locality where it is situated.
