Türkiye resumed the processing of heavy goods vehicles at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing at 00.50 am, reported BTA. Truck traffic was disrupted due to the introduction of Phase 5 of the European transit system NCTS, which caused a 40-kilometer queue on the Maritsa Motorway. This is one of the first customs information systems of the EU, connecting 36 countries, including Türkiye. Bulgaria implemented the system in August 2023, but there were no disruptions in the processing of heavy goods vehicles.
The processing of heavy goods vehicles through Europe's largest land border crossing point was restored first in the direction of Türkiye, and heavy goods vehicles entering Bulgaria started crossing the checkpoint shortly thereafter. According to the customs authority, 505 trucks had been processed in the "exit" lanes and 230 vehicles had been processed in the "entry" lanes by 06.am. The border crossing has a capacity of around 3,000 trucks per day.
According to BNT, the queue of trucks at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing is currently around 30 kilometers long.
