The Confederation of Labour "Podkrepa" has strongly criticized the draft amendments to the Labour Code prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, according to which the growth of the minimum wage is linked only to inflation. In a statement, the trade union unequivocally warns that if the Council of Ministers adopts this bill in its current form, it will take all legally permitted actions to protect the rights of workers. The Confederation of Labour "Podkrepa" is categorical that it will not support any legislative changes until the methodology for determining the minimum wage is clarified and agreed upon.
According to the trade union, with this draft, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy has allowed itself to propose a text that would condemn a quarter of the workers to misery. The trade union emphasizes that Bulgaria has the lowest minimum wage in the European Union and its purchasing power does not effectively combat poverty and social exclusion.
