Businesses are worried the political crisis is hampering the country’s development, says BIA Vice President

“The main priorities businesses have – membership of the Eurozone and accession to the Schengen area by land – have receded to the background. They are the motors which can boost the economy, but the fact there is no regular government is an obstacle on the way to attaining them,” Stanislav Popdonchev, Vice President of the Bulgarian Industrial Association said for the BNR.

“For the moment we do not have a specific date for land Schengen. As regards the Eurozone we stand a good chance of fulfilling the criteria. If we are aiming at a date for the Eurozone in 2025 that means we should not implement any abrupt changes, especially changes that would affect inflation. We have not been able to follow the budget procedure in the past 4 years, not even once. There are indications it is going to be the same again this year. That is quite dangerous to businesses, and it is demonstrating to our European partners that there is no solution to the political crisis in Bulgaria in the offing,” Stanislav Popdonchev said.
