Sofia Municipality to build a museum of communism in Bulgaria's capital

''I promised to build a museum for the history of Bulgarian communism during the election campaign, and we are now taking the first steps", Sofia Mayor Vasíl Terziev wrote on Facebook. ''Sofia is the only capital from the former Eastern Bloc without a museum of communism. Civil society has been active throughout these 35 years with research work, educational initiatives and commemorations for the victims'', Vasil Terziev added.

"It is time for politicians to show maturity and support this civic energy. I believe that a mature society must face its history—both its bright and dark chapters—and read it without closing its eyes or turning its head. I am counting on historians, scholars, museum workers and the entire civil society to lead us in this impartial and thorough discussion of the past so that we can look at the future in a new way", wrote Mayor Terziev.
