Cows locked in a lorry have been stranded for six days in the buffer zone between the Kapitan Andreevo and Kapikule border crossings.

Two of the 47 animals have died, public broadcaster BNT reported. The truck, en route from Romania to Turkey, was refused entry by Turkish authorities because of an outbreak of small ruminant plague in Constanta, said the owner's lawyer, Krasimir Stoyanov.

The truck carrying the cattle left Romania on Friday. According to documents, the cows are already in Turkey and the truck has no papers to re-enter Bulgaria, Nova TV reported.
