Greek scientists will be part of the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition for the first time

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has presented the national flag to the participants in the 33rd Bulgarian expedition to Antarctica. At the ceremony in the presidency, the head of Bulgaria's polar explorers, Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, accepted the flag. 

For the third year in a row, the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition will sail to the Ice Continent onboard the Bulgarian research ship "St. St. Cyril and Methodius". 
For the first time, two scientists from Greece will join the Bulgarian expedition. One of them deals with astrophysics and will make astronomical observations in Antarctica together with the Bulgarian scientists. The other will conduct psychological tests to see how living in isolated places affects people. The President received from Prof. Pimpirev a team with which he would join the expedition to Antarctica, and President Radev expressed his readiness to go if there were no consultations on the formation of a cabinet at that time.

Bulgaria began its polar activity in the Antarctic in 1967-1969, when a Bulgarian meteorologist participated in the 13th Soviet Antarctic Expedition. In 1987/88, the First Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition was organized.
