Legislative loopholes prevent the collection of fines from foreign traffic violators

Less than 3% are the fines paid by foreign drivers who committed traffic violations in Bulgaria's Ruse region, reports BNR correspondent in Ruse Asya Pencheva. From the beginning of the year until now, 5,205 electronic slips have been issued to foreign drivers only on the territory of the Ruse region.

Of these, only 340 were handed over, and only 179 were paid, reported chief inspector Nikolay Nenkov, head of the traffic police in Ruse. The most frequent offenses are speeding, taking the right of way or not keeping the required distance, with the highest number of offenders from Romania.

Due to the lack of adequate legislation in Bulgaria in this area, violators leave Bulgaria without taking responsibility for their behavior on Bulgarian roads, reports the Ministry of the Interior.
