The number of victims of trafficking since the beginning of the year is 55, as 41 of the victims are women, Antoaneta Dimitrova from the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings has reported. According to her, for another year the so called “lover boy” scheme for human trafficking remains the leading one and is at the basis of many of the cases for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Although the predominant form of exploitation is sexual, the number of cases of trafficking for labour exploitation is increasing.

Eighty-nine people were identified at the end of 2023 as victims of trafficking, according to official data from the prosecutor's office.
