Bulgarian singer, musician and composer Kiril Marichkov has passed away. The rock musician has died in an accident in the village of Selanovtsi, where he was supposed to have a concert with "The Foundation",  bTV reported.

Kiril Marichkov’s career started in the early 1960s. He was a member of the first Bulgarian rock band - "Bandaratsite". Later he became one of the founding members of "Shturtsite" (The Crickets), the band with which he recorded and performed songs cherished by generations of Bulgarians for decades. He released 8 studio albums, many singles and compilations with "Shturtsite".

In 2010, Kiril Marichkov was awarded the Order of St. St. Cyril and Methodius for his merits in the field of culture and arts. Ten years later, he received the highest state award - the Stara Planina Order - First Degree.

Since 2013, Kiril Marichkov has managed to meet Bulgarians from all over the world through his concerts with "The Foundation" - the super group that brought together prominent musicians such as Ivan Lechev, Donny, Slavcho Nikolov and Venko Poromanski. The musicians from ''The Foundation'' were preparing a special concert on October 30 in Hall No 1 of the National Palace of Culture to celebrate Kiril Marichkov's 80th birthday and to perform the evergreen song "Kletva" (Oath) together with the audience:

''I swear to God and the Devil to do for you whatever I can. I swore!"

May he rest in peace!
