The number of visits of foreign tourists to Bulgarian museums in 2023 was 988,000, according to data from the National Statistical Institute. This is an increase of 56.4% compared to the previous year, said Deputy Minister of Tourism Pavlin Petrov. According to him, cultural tourism occupies a significant share in Bulgaria's product portfolio and has marked substantial development.

''Cultural tourism, as a part of the specialized types of tourism, has a special focus in the activities of the Annual National Tourism Promotion Programme", Pavlin Petrov said

Eight cultural and historical destinations, developed by the Ministry of Tourism, are used to promote Bulgaria both on the domestic and international tourism market. They cover over 150 sites in more than 70 locations, including sites of religious and pilgrimage tourism.
