Bulgaria supports the United Nations' mission of having humanity's future shaped by development policies and not by military conflicts, President Rumen Radev said during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York. President Radev also expressed his concern over the ongoing military actions near Europe's borders, as a result of which migration flows are increasing and the risk of radicalization and terrorist actions is growing.

President Radev held informal talks with his counterparts during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. At a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, President Radev asked his Iranian counterpart for support in negotiations for the release of the captain and co-captain of the Galaxy Leader ship, taken hostage by the Houthis off the coast of Yemen in November 2023. He also raised the issue of Iran's assistance in the release of the Hamas hostages captured on October 7, 2023. Masoud Pezeshkian invited Rumen Radev to visit Iran, reported BTA.
