The US is investing $240,000 in the ReBonkers Cultural Center in Varna through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), the US Embassy in Sofia reported. Varna is the largest beneficiary of an AFCP project in Europe this year, which shows the deep respect the United States has for Bulgaria's rich cultural heritage, the embassy said.
Since 2022 ReBonkers has been an independent arts venue in Varna, located in a historic building from 1827 that originally served as a gunpowder storehouse for the Ottoman authorities. ReBonkers has hosted over 500 events with over 600 Bulgarian and international artists. "The support for ReBonkers directly supports the independent art scene in Varna and throughout the country by providing more opportunities, better working conditions and a longer-term calendar of events and activities," said Ralitsa Gerasimova, artistic director of the center.
