At the beginning of the political consultations for the appointment of a caretaker prime minister and cabinet, the head of state indicated that the election campaign has practically started.
According to Rumen Radev, the 50th National Assembly has not been able to elect a government and we are inevitably headed for another early parliamentary election. Before that, a candidate for caretaker Prime Minister should be selected and acting government should be appointed, as the main goal is organizing fair and transparent parliamentary elections, the president pointed out. He also emphasized that it was very important to guarantee the normal functioning of the state, but according to the changes in the Constitution, the possibilities of choosing a caretaker Prime Minister were drastically limited. Radev added that he had started talks with all potential candidates for prime minister, but at the same time important issues must be resolved. Therefore, clarity is needed in the state regarding its management, which is also the subject of the consultations.
At the consultations, Yordan Tsonev from DPS pointed out that a parliament in which there is no definite majority responsible for the budget and activities in terms of legislation and executive power was dangerous because it creates bad, harmful, low-quality legislation. The chairman of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov commented that his party currently did not have a suitable figure for prime minister. In the course of the conversation, President Radev pointed out that other people, besides Dimitar Glavchev, have expressed their readiness to take the position of caretaker Prime Minister. On the occasion of the upcoming elections, the chairman of PP-DB Nikolay Denkov called on President Rumen Radev, to consider a different leadership team of the Ministry of the Interior and emphasized that the main duty of the caretaker cabinet is ensuring fair elections.
After the consultations with the President, Bozhidar Bozhanov from PP-DB pointed out that according to a preliminary analysis of the coalition, the buying of votes increased by at least 35,000 votes compared to 2023.
