Bulgarians prefer to travel inside Bulgaria

Bulgaria is among the first countries of the EU in the number of nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments connected with domestic tourism, indicate Eurostat data in May, and according to current information this tendency has been confirmed. The increased interest by Bulgarians in traveling inside the country places Bulgaria in 5th position among the countries members of the EU. Compared to May of the pre-pandemic year of 2019, the number of overnight stays in domestic tourism is up by 29%.

According to data from the unified system for tourism information, in May this year, Bulgarians preferred to travel to Sofia, Varna, Velingrad, Plovdiv and Nessebar, with over 50% of them being aged under 44.
