The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) is against the attempts of the anti-European and pro-Russian parties to play with the topic of "referendum for the euro". In a position published by the press center of the DPS, the chairman of the party, Delyan Peevski, points out that the speculations about a referendum "for" or "against" the euro were a trap and this would mean a referendum "for" or "against" our membership in the EU.
The position also points out that Bulgaria, as a EU Member State, has taken commitment to introduce the single European currency with the signing of the EU accession treaty and that DPS has been the basis of this policy for 16 years and will defend this goal until its achievement. According to the position of party, upon the adoption of the euro, the transition will be smooth and problem-free due to the fact that our country has been in a currency board since 1997 and businesses and people will only benefit from the introduction of the single European currency.
