“These 2010 cms. prove that there is no limit to human capabilities, and disprove pessimists that some athletic records will be eternal,” Bulgarian Olympic Committee chair Stefka Kostadinova said in a comment on the breaking of the women’s high jump record of 209 cms. which she herself set 37 years ago. “A month ago I was in Rome with officials who awarded the Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh after she won the European gold. I gave her a big hug and whispered to her that she was ready for a world record. We even laughed because I said that she could clear 207 cms. at the Paris Olympics and then go on to target 210 cms. And she did just that, in Paris but a little before the Olympics. I would like to wish her more victories and records but I will not stop believing that one day the record will once again be Bulgarian,” Stefka Kostadinova said.
