The position Bulgaria is going to the NATO summit with indicates that Bulgaria could offer Ukraine EUR 80 million, caretaker PM Dimitar Glavchev told reporters in parliament.
However, he added that whatever the sum, it can only become fact after it is approved by parliament. Dimitar Glavchev did not specify what this sum would be provided for. Earlier today GERB leader Boyko Borissov stated that Bulgaria would not give Ukraine any cash. Movement for Rights and Freedoms co-chair Delyan Peevski stated that there was no contradiction in the statements by Dimitar Glavchev and Boyko Borissov. “This money will not be given by Bulgaria to Ukraine, it will be deducted from the sums Bulgaria receives for the arms it supplies Kyiv with.”
“Our main goal is to protect our national interests as a NATO ally,” Dimitar Glavchev said in a comment on Bulgaria’s position at the NATO summit.
Talking to reporters, Dimitar Glavchev welcomed the proposals, made in plenary, for Bulgaria to become mediator in peace negotiations or peace initiatives. The only thing that has to be emphasized, Glavchev said, is that such peace negotiations must be in accordance with the UN charter and international law.
