Tutrakan hosts the Apricot Festival

The town of Tutrakan, located along the banks of the Danube River, gathers apricot producers from the region for the traditional festival "Tutrakan – the Apricot Capital".

Connoisseurs of the delicious fruit meet on Sunday for the 20th consecutive year.  As tradition dictates, various apricot varieties will be presented. There will also be competitions for the best fruit, the most delicious apricot pastries and apricot jam, and for the best apricot brandy.

The harvesting campaign in the Silistra region has already started, but yields of early apricot varieties are lower due to spring frosts. However, this is not hampering demand because the harvest in neighbouring countries is weaker.

There are over 20,000 decares of apricot orchards in the Silistra region. The Experimental Station for Apricot and Agriculture in Silistra cultivates 500 apricot varieties.
