The three-day Cherry Festival begins tonight in Kyustendil's Velbazd Square with the preparation of 1,500 ice creams with cherry syrup, reports BNR correspondent Kiril Falin.

Especially for the event, which traditionally attracts thousands of guests from home and abroad, the Agricultural Institute near the city is preparing an exhibition of the latest cherry varieties

There will also be a number of competitions - for the best and most attractive cherry stall, for the biggest cherry. It should be noted that last year's record holder was a cherry measuring 36 millimetres in diameter from the nearby village of Granitsa. Tonight there will be a concert by the legendary Bulgarian band Akaga. Among the attractions is a craft fair.
