After an accident that took place when Unit 6 of the Kozloduy NPP was shut down for repairs, no personnel were exposed to radiation, no leakage of radioactive water into the Danube River occurred, and some operators from the plant were temporarily suspended from work. This was summarized by the caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov at a hearing in the National Assembly.

A few days ago, nuclear physicist Georgi Kaschiev announced in an interview that plant officials told him about a possible leakage of radioactive water during the repair due to a problem in the steam generator of Unit 6, but there was no such official information from the Kozloduy NPP. Later, the director of the plant, Valentin Nikolov, confirmed the incident in a television interview, explaining that the leakage of radioactive water, which was the result of human error, was within the hermetic zone and there was no danger to the workers and the environment.

In parliament, Malinov said that he would request an analysis of the possibility of the steam generators for the Belene NPP to be used for the Kozloduy NPP, and then he would consider whether these steam generators should be included in the list of equipment to be sold to Ukraine.
