National exhibition of the Ile-de-France sheep breed held in Bulgaria's Sliven

The National Show of the Ile-de-France sheep breed was held on 14 and 15 June in Sliven. The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Deyan Stratev, who reminded that the Ile-de-France breed is one of the two specialized meat breeds in Bulgaria and one of the earliest introduced breeds in the country with over half a century of history. 

The best specimens of the breed from different categories were presented during the livestock show.

The first import of the breed was realized in 1968 - 94 sheep and 21 goats were placed in the farms in Stara Zagora and Razlog. The purpose was mainly experimental - to establish the acclimatization and productive features of the breed and its use for crossbreeding with the breeds bred in Bulgaria, inform on their website the Association for Breeding of the Ile-de-France Breed in Bulgaria. 

The breed acclimatizes well in the Stara Zagora region. 

Today there are approximately 8,000 animals of this breed in Bulgaria.
